The Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal (ICP) has granted various internships to representatives of East Timor from the UNTAET Information Technology, Post and Telecommunications Division. The internships have already commenced and will last until the end of November, to be continued in 2002.

This training initiative takes place within the framework of previously established, commitments, namely via the memorandum signed between the Portuguese State and East Timor's Transitional Government, and the cooperation policy that has been pursued by ICP, for which a number of countries have expressed growing interest.

These internships are divided into four distinct training initiatives, addressing the following topics: "Inspection of the Radio-electric spectrum", "International Protocols and Obligations", "Regulation" and "Tariff Principles".

Representatives from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Bulgaria and Hungary have already participated in ICP's cooperation initiatives. These initiatives encompass training initiatives, information exchange, consulting and, in certain cases, missions to the relevant countries.
