Slovakia has taken over the presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) from 1 July 31 to December 2016, as part of the presidential triumvirate composed of the Netherlands (1st half 2016) and Malta (1st half 2017).
The main priorities announced for the next 6 months are:
- economically strong Europe;
- modern single market;
- sustainable migration and asylum policies;
- globally engaged Europe.
These priorities correspond to 3 principles:
- achieve tangible results;
- combat fragmentation;
- guidance for citizens.
