2016 GEM-TECH Award


The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in partnership with the United Nations, has launched the 2016 edition of the annual prize GEM-TECH awards (Gender Equality and Mainstreaming - Technology).

Nominations by the ITU are being accepted until 31 July from individuals or organisations, who have carried out exceptional work in promoting gender equality in the field of information and communications technology.

Nominations for the GEM-TECH award, including self-nominations, may involve initiatives of civil society, the private sector, Governments, international organizations or academic institutions, and must be made at the site http://goo.gl/forms/enua5GuVuehttp://goo.gl/forms/enua5GuVue.

This prize will be awarded in three categories related to the strategy for gender equality:

  • Apply Technology for Women's Empowerment and Digital Inclusion.
  • Promote Women in the Technology Sector.
  • Develop Gender Responsive ICT Governance, Policy and Access.

Winners will be contacted at the end of September and the award winner will be announced during the next world telecommunications expo - ITU Telecom World Forum - which will take place from 14 to 17 November 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand.
