86th meeting of the Frequency Management working group - Bordeaux


The French city of Bordeaux hosted last 17-21 October the 86th meeting of CEPT’s working group on Frequency Management (WG FM). The meeting was chaired by Thomas Weilacher of Germany and attended by 98 delegates from 34 CEPT administrations, the European Commission (EC), European Communications Office, International Telecommunication Union and 14 international organisations.

The most relevant decisions made at the meeting are summarised below:

  • Approval of a draft CEPT report on extension bands for wireless access systems/radio local networks and an addendum to the CEPT report on the 6th update of the EC decision on short range devices (SRD); these two documents will be submitted to the ECC for final approval and publication;
  • Approval of two new ECC decisions that revoke out-of-date decisions on CT1, CT1+, CT2 and S-PCS applications;
  • Revision of several ECC decisions concerning free circulation and use of earth stations on board vessels operating in fixed satellite service networks, transitional arrangements for fixed service and for tactical beams in 1980-2010/2170-2200 MHz and protection of earth exploration satellite service (passive) in 1400-1427 MHz;
  • Approval for publication of ECC Report 256 on long term evolution coverage arrangements as well as revision of ECC Report 32 on amateur examinations;
  • Approval also for publication of the amendment of Recommendations (11)06 on block edge mask, which now includes 700 MHz, and 25-10 on audio and video for programme making and special events equipment, and of a new recommendation on cross-border coordination for broadband systems for public protection and disaster relief in 698-791 MHz;
  • Approval for publication of amendments to the following annexes to ERC Recommendation 70-03 on SRD:

- Annex 1, Non-specific Short Range Devices – removes the notes referring to bands f2 and f4 (169 MHz), excluding equipment that concentrates or multiplexes individual equipment;

- Annex 10, Radio microphone applications including assistive listening device, wireless audio and multimedia streaming systems; now includes the 1350-1400 MHz band.

The next ordinary meeting of WG FM will be held from 30 January to 3 February 2017.
