European 112 Day - 11 February 2017

European 112 Day is celebrated annually on 11 February. 112 is the single European emergency number, which can be called for free from anywhere in the European Union on landlines and mobile phones.

"Using social networks in emergency situations" was the theme proposed by the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) to celebrate the day in 2017.

Europe has experienced a number of emergencies in recent months (natural and manmade), demonstrating the need to focus on the safety of Europeans and visitors, and also demonstrating the importance of social media as a useful tool for citizens and authorities in emergency situations.

In the context of celebrating European 112 Day, EENA organised an event taking place on 7 February to discuss the provisions linked to access to emergency services in the new European Electronic Communications Code proposed by the European Commission.
