The project team on Number Portability (PT NP) of the ECC working group on Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) met last 9-10 February at the offices of the Swiss national regulatory authority (OFCOM – Federal Office of Communications) in Biel/Biene, Switzerland.
This team has been producing studies, reports and recommendations associated to simplification of operator change, including number portability and also improper use of E.164 numbers.
The main aspects in question were debated at this meeting with a view to producing the following documents:
- Report on facilitation and competition using over-the-air technology;
- Report on the role of E.164 numbers in international fraud and/or improper use in electronic communication services;
- ECC recommendation on use of caller line identification (CLI).
Also analysed were eventual impacts in the portability and CLI scope of European Commission proposals for the Electronic Communications Code and the ePrivacy Regulation.
This team’s next meeting is scheduled for May 2017.
