Commission reveals results of consultation on next generation Internet

The European Commission has released the results of a public consultation on next generation Internet, held from 10 November 2016 to 9 January 2017, to identify areas of technology of relevance to the Internet of the future.

The information gathered through this consultation reveals that participants consider citizens' sovereignty over their own data and the protection of their privacy as fundamental. The responses received also point to the importance of the Internet in ensuring diversity, pluralism and a right to choose.

Personal Data Spaces and Artificial Intelligence were recognised as the most important technology areas.

The consultation results will be used in setting research and innovation priorities in the EU "Horizon 2020" programme.
