Meeting of the Committee for ITU Policy (Com-ITU) - April 2017

Vilnius hosted on 24-25 April 2017 a meeting of the CEPT Committee for ITU Policy. This committee, chaired by Portugal, is responsible for European coordination with a view to participation in activities of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The gathering mainly focused on preparing Europe’s participation in the upcoming World Telecommunications Development Conference (WTDC-17), to be held in the last quarter of this year in Argentina. Progress was made in drafting the European common proposals (ECPs) to submit.

Another highlight was the preparation for the 2017 Council session. Various CEPT countries were able to reach an understanding on preparation of a joint contribution, envisaging the holding of public hearings of elected posts in the EU.

Preparations for PP18 were on the agenda and the discussion also focused on CEPT’s position vis-à-vis preparation of the ITU strategy plan for 2020-2023.

Finally, an understanding was reached on the importance of consensus-building in the ITU and on working methods during the Union’s main conferences/assemblies.

The next Com-ITU meeting will be held on 4-6 July 2018 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
