69th ETSI General Assembly - April 2017

The 69th ETSI General Assembly was held last 4-5 April 2017 in Sophia Antipolis, France.

The GA approved 43 new memberships (34 full members and 9 associate members) as well as several ‘exits’ of associate members, expulsions and changes of status or name. Overall, compared to the April 2016 GA, there was an increase in the total number of members and contributory units, which respectively rose from 817 and 4172 to 847 and 4239.

At the Specially Convened Meeting a number of documents were approved, specifically meant to:

  • endow the board with powers in order to create coordination groups as well as ETSI’s participation in external coordination groups;
  • clarify the term ‘officials’ in ETSI directives in order to specify in each case those concerned;
  • create a new more flexible process for membership and expulsion of members, making it possible to make changes in the process four times per year instead of the usual twice.

The GA took note of the report submitted by the Financial Committee on the institute’s financial situation in 2016, which presented a positive result, and approved the budget guidelines for 2018 proposed by the director-general, which keep unchanged the values of various contributory units. Also approved were ETSI’s annual report for 2016, the audit report and the financial statements for 2016.

Looking forward to the elections to be held in November 2017, the GA approved the board’s characteristics for the next term, making no changes to the current characteristics.

Finally, in the area of cooperation, the creation/removal of a number of memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements was approved.

The next GA has been scheduled for 28-29 November 2017 in Sophia Antipolis.
