TSAG meeting - May 2017


Geneva hosted last 1-4 May the first meeting of TSAG, a part of the ITU Telecommunication Standardisation Sector (ITU-T), for the 2017-2020 study period.

The most important issues discussed at this meeting were the following:

  • review of main decisions of the 2016 World Telecommunications Standardisation Assembly (WTSA-16)) and implications for ITU-T in the next four years;
  • budget of the sector (ITU-T), which is balanced;
  • standardisation strategy ITU-T should follow and how to combat the standardisation gap between the developed and less developed countries;
  • new subjects for ITU-T to study, specifically convergence of telecom services, artificial intelligence and information-centric networking;
  • 5.0 society - inclusion of best practices of national plans for information society development in elaboration of the ITU-T standardisation strategy.

The next TSAG meeting will be held on 13-16 March 2018 or 15-19 January 2018.
