The Number Portability project team (PT NP) of the ECC working group on Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) met last 3-4 May in Vilnius, Lithuania, at the offices of the Lithuanian regulatory authority (Communications Regulatory Authority).
This team has been producing studies, reports and recommendations concerning the simplification of operator switching, including number portability.
This meeting served to debate key aspects in question with a view to further developing the following documents:
- Report on facilitation and competition using over-the-air technology;
- Report on the role of E.164 numbers in international fraud and/or in improper usage of electronic communication services.
Two conference calls were made with respect to these two topics, with the GSM Association and with TransNexus. They helped clarify some relevant aspects for the production of those reports.
Also evaluated was the eventual impact on this working group’s work resulting from both the European Commission’s proposal for the electronic communications code and from the regulation on privacy in electronic environment (e-privacy).
The next WG NaN meeting is scheduled for October 2017 in Lisbon.
