ANACOM and Portuguese Maritime Police inspect vessels in Madeira

Between 30 May and 1 June 2017, a joint enforcement operation took place involving ANACOM and AMN - Autoridade Marítima Nacional (Portuguese Maritime Police) focusing on the ports of Caniçal, Funchal and Calheta, with the objective of checking the legality of radio stations on board fishing vessels and leisure craft. These actions focused specifically on the use of frequencies that might cause interference to distress, emergency and maritime and aeronautical communications.

Fifteen vessels were inspected and a non-compliant situation was detected on one fishing vessel, where VHF equipment was found with prohibited frequencies.

An official report was filed and the equipment seized on a precautionary basis.
