ITU and UN launch annual "Equals in Tech" award


The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in partnership with the United Nations (UN), has launched the annual “Equals in Tech” award, formerly Gender Equality Mainstreaming - Technology (GEM-TECH).

The ITU and the UN will accept nominations for individuals, organisations or initiatives whose activities have achieved distinction in the promotion of gender equality in information and communication technologies (nominations close 15 September 2017).

The award will be allocated in three categories related to the gender equality strategy:

  • Access - Develop gender responsive ICT governance, policy and access.
  • Skills - Encourage women and girls to pursue education in science, technology, engineering and math studies.
  • Leadership - Promote women in the technology sector.

The award will take place during the next Internet Governance Forum, which will take place from 18 to 21 December 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland.
