ITU Council meeting - May 2017


Geneva hosted last 15-25 May a meeting of the ITU Council, the body responsible for managing the organisation between plenipotentiary conferences.

This Council session was chaired by Eva Spina of Italy and attended by 48 member states with seats on the Council and various member states as observers (among them Portugal).

The following stand out among major results of the 2017 Council session:

  • Approval of the budget for the two-year period 2018-2019;
  • Approval of operational plans for the General Secretariat and for the three sectors;
  • Approval of decisions on the registration of international numbering resources;
  • Establishment of the Council working group for drafting the Union’s Strategy and Finance Plan;
  • Decision on upcoming open consultations on public internet policies.

The 2018 Council session will take place on 18-27 April.
