Committee for ITU Policy (Com-ITU) meeting - July 2017

The Bulgarian capital Sofia hosted last 4-6 July a meeting of the Committee for ITU Policy (Com-ITU). This Portugal-chaired committee is responsible for European coordination with a view to participation in activities of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

The gathering mainly focused on preparing Europe’s participation in the upcoming World Telecommunications Development Conference (WTDC-17), to be held in the last quarter of this year in Argentina. The first European common proposals to submit to WTDC-17 were approved.

Preparations for PP-18 were also included in the agenda, as meetings of the two working groups in charge of preparing European positions for that conference (PT FIMO and PT Policy) were held.

Other issues highlighted at the Sofia meeting were the review of the 2017 Council session and preparation for working groups of the Council, which will take place this coming September.

The next Com-ITU meeting will be held on 6-7 September 2018 in Copenhagen.
