Chair of ANACOM will preside over the European Regulators Group for Postal Services in 2019


The Chair of ANACOM's Board of Directors, João Cadete de Matos, has been elected unanimously as Chairman of the European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP) in 2019. The election was held today in Bonn at the ERGP plenary meeting.

In accordance with the rules of the European Regulators Group, Mr Matos will serve as Vice-Chair in 2018 and also in 2020, ensuring continuity of the Group's work. In 2018, the position of ERGP Chair will be held by Jack Hamande, Chair of the Belgian regulator.

The ERGP was established by European Commission decision on 10 August 2010, with the aim of promoting the sharing of regulatory experience and best practice among all postal regulators. It is made up of the 28 national regulatory authorities of the European Union (EU) in the field of postal services, as well as the national regulatory authorities of the countries of the European Economic Area and EU applicant countries. Its tasks are to advise and assist the European Commission on the consolidation and development of the single postal services market, as well as on the consistent implementation of the regulatory framework for postal services in all Member States and any other area within its remit related to postal services.

The strategic objectives of the ERGP for the coming years include promotion of sustainable provision of the universal postal service, the promotion of a competitive single postal market and the promotion of proper protection of consumers and other users of postal services.

Chair of ANACOM will preside over the European Regulators Group for Postal Services in 2019.
