The project team on Number Portability (PT NP) of the ECC’s WG NaN met last 3-4 October in Lisbon.
This team has been producing studies, reports and recommendations on aspects concerning the simplification of operator switching, including number portability.
This meeting’s work was meant to prepare the following reports so they can be approved for public consultation at the next WG NaN meeting:
- Report on use of over-the-air technology;
- Report on the role of E.164 numbers in international fraud and/or improper use in electronic communication services.
Regarding the topic of the second report, the meeting was expanded in order to hear the opinion of other stakeholders. Presentations were given by the companies MEO – Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia, NOS Comunicações and WeDo Technologies.
Also discussed were eventual impacts of the new electronic communications code (regulation concerning electronic communications) proposed by the European Commission and the regulation on privacy in electronic environments (ePrivacy).
This working group’s next meeting is scheduled for February 2018 in Brussels.
