70th ETSI General Assembly - November 2017

The 70th General Assembly of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) was held last 28-29 November in Sophia Antipolis, France.

Compared to the November 2016 GA, with regard to new memberships, revised contribution classes and expulsion of members, the 70th GA recorded an increase in the total number of members and units of contribution (UCs), which respectively rose from 804 and 4,124 to 806 and 4,287.

Several documents were approved during a specially convened meeting (SCM), namely to change the procedural rules in the special task forces (STFs) and in approval procedures for EN standards, along with a proposal concerning quorum and proxies which sets deadlines for sending in the latter.

The GA took note of the report presented by the Financial Committee on the Institute’s financial situation in 2017, which presents a positive result. It also supported the proposed budget for 2018, which keeps the values of the various UCs unchanged. The 2018 activity plan of the ETSI Secretariat was likewise approved.

Regarding elections, the Board members were nominated by acclamation for the 2017-2020 period. The respective chair, Dirk Weiler, was elected in the second round for a second three-year term and the Financial Committee members for the 2017-2019 two-year period were appointed.

Finally, in the area of cooperation, the creation/renewal of a set of memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements was approved.

The next GA has been scheduled for 17-18 April 2018 in Sophia Antipolis.
