Prices of telephone number portability services fall by up to 62%

An agreement has been reached between ANACOM, operators with portability obligations and the reference entity that manages the ported numbers database (Portabil) on a revision of prices associated with the provision of portability services. These monthly subscription prices will see significant reductions (up to 62%) from the values which have been in force since 2015.

Among the changes introduced, there was a reduction in monthly subscription prices, by 40%, and two new monthly prices were created: One monthly price for operators holding fewer than 300 numbers (reduction of 52%); and another for those who only forward traffic (reduction of 62%).

These measures, which ANACOM has promoted, enable a substantial reduction in the costs incurred by operators with portability obligations, encouraging the entry of new operators into the market and fostering competition in the electronic communications sector.

The addendum to the respective contract will be signed on 28 February by the parties subscribed to it (ANACOM, operators and Portabil) and will apply with retroactive effect from 1 January 2018.

In total, from the introduction of portability in 2001 to 31 January 2018, 8.3 million numbers have been ported, comprising 4.1 million mobile numbers and 4.2 million numbers of the fixed telephone service. According to the latest available data, in the period from 1 February 2017 to 31 January 2018, 804,826 numbers were ported.
