47th meeting of the Electronic Communications Committee

The 47th meeting of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) was taking place in Lisbon, attended by around 90 participants representing various countries and the European Commission (EC), as well as observers. It should be noted that ANACOM currently occupies the vice-presidency of the ECC through Jaime Afonso, Head of the Spectrum Planning and Engineering Division.

The ECC brings together 'administrations' from 48 countries and is responsible for the development of policies on electronic communications and applications in the European context, taking into account European and international legislation. In particular, it sets out to harmonize uses of the radio spectrum and to promote its efficient usage, as well as satellite orbits and numbering resources throughout Europe.

The agenda of the meeting comprised the following topics:

  • discussion of 5G in the 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands;
  • spectrum identification for the Internet of Things/machine-to-machine;
  • potential integration of satellites into the 5G ecosystem;
  • extension of Intelligent Transport Systems security in the 5.9 GHz band;
  • spectrum for drones.

The meeting began on 27 February 2018 and ended on March 2.
