CTT's postal network and service offerings - 3rd quarter 2017


The report1 on the postal network and service offerings provided by CTT - Correios de Portugal (CTT), concessionaire of the universal postal service, is already available.

This report, concerning the 3rd quarter of 2017 (3Q2017) notes that, by the end of that period, 2368 postal establishments were in operation, including 608 permanent post stations, 3 mobile post stations and 1757 post offices.

The total number of postal establishments registered a slight increase compared to the end of 20142, in line with the objectives for postal network density and minimum service offerings established by determination of ANACOM, of 28 August 2014https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1334341, which implicitly requires CTT to maintain 2296 postal establishments in operation from the 4th quarter of 2014 (inclusively) until the end of September 2017.

Exclusively on the basis of information reported by CTT, this operator achieved in 3Q2017 the objectives for postal network density and minimum service offerings.

At international level, according to the data available for 2016 from the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on the network of permanent postal establishments of universal service providers in EU Member States (EU), the Portuguese situation is slightly more positive, in terms of coverage index and national population density index, compared with the EU average, excluding Portugal.

In Portugal, the rate of postal establishments managed by third parties exceeds the EU average.
