ANACOM's Chairman takes part in the 10th Annual European E-Commerce Conference 2019

The Chairman of ANACOM's Board of Directors, João Cadete de Matos, has taken part, as Chair of the European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP), in the 10th Annual European E-Commerce Conference 2019, which was held on 10 April, in Brussels (Belgium) and organised by ForumEurope and EMOTA.

João Cadete de Matos took part on the panel on delivery in the digital economy, where he was joined by Lucy Anderson (Member of the European Parliament), Raphaël Goulet (Head of Unit, Public Interest Services, DG GROW, European Commission) and by Jan Bart Henry (PostNL).

It was pointed out that while e-commerce is an opportunity for the postal sector, it poses new regulatory challenges, while the ERGP is developing work to contribute to the development of the postal and delivery sector.

Discussions on the review of the regulatory framework governing postal services should focus on creating a future-proof framework, while taking into account the new needs and challenges facing the sector. On the other hand, it is always the role of regulators to ensure that all consumers and companies, throughout the national territory, are able to receive their deliveries and send out their products.

The work being done by the ERGP on the application of the Regulation on the cross-border delivery of e-commerce parcels was also discussed, with a view to an assessment of this regulation in 2020.
