First meeting of the working group on the future of submarine cables for communications between mainland Portugal, the Azores and Madeira


The first meeting of the working group charged with studying and analysing the most appropriate technical and financial configuration for the timely replacement of submarine cables providing communications links between Mainland Portugal, the Azores and Madeira (CAM) was held on 2 July 2019 at ANACOM's head office in Lisbon.

The working group, chaired by João Cadete de Matos, Chairman of ANACOM, includes representatives from the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira, the Ministries of Finance, Planning and Infrastructure and Housing, the Secretary of State for Communications and ANACOM.

In this first meeting, the group took note of the initiatives already engaged by the various participating entities and carried out a first joint reflection on the objectives of the work to be carried out.

Proceedings should be completed by 31 December 2019, with delivery of a final report to the Government containing recommendations on the replacement of the CAM Ring.
