Scientific and technical partnership for the development of the IST-sat-1 project

The first tests on the main subsystems of the ISTsat-1 http://istsat-one.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/ nanosatellite in the radio and electromagnetic compatibility areas of ANACOM’s Testing and Calibration Laboratoryhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?categoryId=341923, began on the 24 July 2019 in Barcarena following a set of planning meetings.

These trials take place under a partnership between ANACOM and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in the context of the project to develop the first nanosatellite by a Portuguese university, ISTsat-1.

As a result of the high competence and commitment of the teachers and students involved in this project, this nanosatellite is now subject to important tests to verify its functionalities in space, using the infrastructures and knowledge of ANACOM Laboratory technicians.

Thus, the tests, to be performed in the area of electromagnetic compatibility to the main nanosatellite subsystems, involve measurements in the radiated emission and radiated susceptibility strands, performed in anechoic environment.

With regard to radio testing, the objective is to evaluate the behaviour of satellite radio subsystems, particularly in terms of output power and emission frequency, when subjected to extreme temperature conditions using a climate chamber, as well as measuring spurious emissions.

The IST project, together with those of 5 other European universities, will enter the functional and environmental testing phase before taking the final steps prior to its launch, the preparation of which is the responsibility of the Space Agency's education office under the Fly Your Satellite Programme https://www.esa.int/Education/CubeSats_-_Fly_Your_Satellite/Fly_Your_Satellite!_programme.
