Third meeting of the working group on the future of submarine cables for communications between mainland Portugal, the Azores and Madeira


The third meeting of the working group was held in ANACOM's headquarters in Lisbon on 24 July 2019, to study and analyse the most suitable technical and financial configuration for the timely replacement of submarine cables carrying communications between mainland Portugal, the Azores and Madeira (CAM).

This third meeting involved presentations and clarifications on the respective projects by Angola Cables, EQUINIX and NEC. The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera - IPMA) and the Telecommunications Institute (Instituto de Telecomunicações - IT) also jointly presented the creation of a national project for seismic detection through the use of undersea cables, which also involves environmental protection and oceanography.

The working group also made a joint reflection on the actions to be taken to respond to its mandate.
