Process kicks off on 07.02.2020 at a national level at only ends in the summer - Sines DTT Transmitter changes frequency at 16:30

The switchover of the DTT transmitter network at a national level begins on 7 February with the Sines transmitter, which changes frequency at around 16:30. From this time onwards, anyone whose television has a blank screen will have to retune in order to return to watching television as normal, as has always been the case up to date. The Sines transmitter, which is now on channel 56, moves to channel 43 on 7 February.

During this first stage, which ends on 27 February, a total of 20 transmitters will be changed, which includes all of those of the Algarve, some of the Alentejo and Sines transmitter of the district of Setúbal. The process will then continue to the north, with its expected completion at the end of June. People will know that they have been covered by the switchover if their television shows a blank screen.

When the television screen is just black it will only be necessary to retune the television or DTT set top box and everyone will continue to watch television free of charge, as has always been the case up to date.  It's a simple process. ANACOM has taken care to ensure that it will not be necessary to replace or redirect the antenna, change the TV or set top box, and no-one will need to subscribe to paid television services. Condominiums/buildings that have facilities with mono channel amplifiers might have to replace them.

To assist in this process, ANACOM has created a free support line (800 102 002), that operates every day between 9am and 10pm, to which people may call to clarify doubts and obtain support when retuning their television.

If anyone is unable to retune the equipment, on their own or with assistance provided through the freephone number 800 102 002, ANACOM will ultimately schedule a visit to this person's home and will do the retuning free of charge.

ANACOM will disclose the information about the changes to DTT through a letter and leaflet which is delivered to all homes, summarising the relevant information for people to be able to adapt to this process of change. For the switchover of the network of transmitters during stage 1, the distribution of this information took place between 24 and 30 January, with 304 thousand letters/leaflets having been delivered.

With the aim of extending the range of of entities that can help to spread information and provide assistance to the population, ANACOM has established various partnerships with Municipal Councils, Parish Councils, the GNR (military component with jurisdiction in civil law enforcement), the PSP police (civilian Public Security Police), the Instituto da Segurança Social (Social Security Institute), AMA - Lojas e Espaços do Cidadão (Citizen's Shops and Spaces), the Liga dos Bombeiros Portugueses (League of Portuguese Firefighters), parish priests, the Corpo Nacional de Escutas - Escuteiros (National Scouts Corps), among other entities.
