ANACOM inaugurates philatelic exhibition in Angra do Heroísmo

The official opening ceremony of the ''Selos Portugueses de Além-Mar'' (Portuguese Overseas Stamps) exhibition is held on 14 February 2020, at Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional Luís da Silva Ribeiro https://bparlsr.azores.gov.pt/destaque/exposicao-selos-portugueses-de-alem-mar/, (Public Library and Regional Archive), in Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira Island).

The exhibition opens to the public on 15 February, being displayed up to 30 March 2020.

ANACOM thus aims to extend to the wider public this historical heritage of the communications sector kept at the Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation), of which it is a founder.

Hence, through this travelling exhibition, ANACOM opens the door, free of charge, to all wishing to see this philatelic collection composed of stamps issued in Portugal's former colonies, which share a common history. The items on display are testimonies of the past, revealing cultural and identifying features of those peoples.

The exhibition, which has already been open to the public in Lisbon, Funchal and Ponta Delgada, displays 75 stamps, which are part of the philatelic collection under ANACOM's custody, and the original drawings on which the production of these stamps was based.

Associated to the inauguration of the exhibition, CTT - Correios de Portugal and the Philatelic Centre of Angra do Heroísmo will launch a stamp, an envelope and a seal commemorating ANACOM's 30 years of existence. A lecture will also be given, entitled ''A História dos Açores e a sua importância para a comunicação transatlântica'' (The History of the Azores and its importance for transatlantic communication), by the historian Maduro-Dias.

The exhibition can be visited at Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive, located at Rua do Morrão, 42, in Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira Island), between 9:00 and 19:00 hours from Monday to Friday, and from 14:00 to 19:00 hours on Saturday.
