''Write a message to an adult about the world we live in'' is the theme chosen by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for the 2020 letter-writing competition.
The competition ''A melhor carta'' (The best letter) is aimed at young people living in Portugal aged between 9 and 15 years of age (on 31 January 2020) and aims to stimulate a taste for letter writing.
To take part in the 2020 competition, just write a letter on the proposed topic and send it to the Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation), by email.
Letters must meet the following criteria:
- be written in Portuguese;
- respect the new spelling agreement;
- be between 500 and 800 words;
- be original;
- be in letter-writing form and respect the three basic components of a letter (date, courtesy formulas and/or greeting and signature).
The deadline for receiving letters is 2 April 2020 (date of postmark).
In the 2019 competition, the winning letter, written by Gabriel Grades, from the Escola Básica Padre Joaquim Maria Fernandes, from the Agrupamento de Escolas de Sousel, represented Portugal in the international competition, and received an honourable mention https://www.fpc.pt/pt/concurso-a-melhor-carta-2019-mencao-honrosa/.
