The official inauguration of the exhibition ''Selos Portugueses de Além-Mar'' (Portuguese Overseas Stamps), took place on 14 February 2020, at the Biblioteca Pública (Public Library) and Arquivo Regional (Regional Archive) Luís da Silva Ribeiro, in Angra do Heroísmohttps://bparlsr.azores.gov.pt/destaque/exposicao-selos-portugueses-de-alem-mar/ (Island of Terceira). This exhibition will be open to the public until 30 March 2020.
ANACOM has opened its doors, free of charge, to everyone who wish to discover this philatelic collection composed of postage stamps issued in the territories of the former Portuguese colonies, which share a common history. The works on display are a testament that bears witness to our past and shine a light on the culture and identity of those peoples.
In the exhibition, which has already been on show in Lisbon, Funchal and Ponta Delgada, 75 postage stamps, which are part of the philatelic archive under the care of ANACOM, are put on display together with the original drawings on which the production of these stamps was based.
Associated to this inauguration, a postage stamp, an envelope and rubber stamp commemorating ANACOM's 30th anniversary were launched by CTT - Correios de Portugal and the Núcleo Filatélico de Angra do Heroísmo Stamp Club. A seminar also took place on A História dos Açores e a sua importância para a comunicação transatlântica (The History of the Azores and its importance for transatlantic communication), given by the historian Maduro-Dias.
The exhibition can be seen at the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive, located at Rua do Morrão, 42, in Angra do Heroísmo, from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
