Council of Administration - February 2020

The most recent meeting of the Council of Administration (CA) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was held last 24-28 February in Berne, Switzerland, immediately after the meetings of the Postal Operations Council (POC). The CA reviewed the final work of the project teams and committees, particularly highlighting the World Postal Strategy and respective activities plan as well as financial issues such as sustainability of the pension fund, improved collection procedures for outstanding payments, the UPU budget for 2020, and revision of the contribution and remuneration systems. The task forces in charge of these issues will also meet before the 27th Congress to prepare financial simulations that reflect, in the documents to prepare for the Congress, the comments produced in the CA.

The CA also debated the UPU’s opening to the wider postal sector, presenting the results of the questionnaire distributed to member countries, designated operators and other stakeholders and debating its main conclusions as well as the key viewpoints conveyed at the high-level forum on this subject held by the UPU last 13 February.

The current four-year activity cycle of the UPU will culminate at the 27th Postal Congress, the organisation’s top event, scheduled for this coming 10-28 August in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
