ANACOM estimates that, during the week from 06/04/2020 to 12/04/2020, voice and data traffic increased by around 1% and 2%, respectively, in relation to the previous week.

In this period, the traffic of mobile services fell (-1% for mobile voice and -7% for mobile data), while the traffic of fixed services increased (3% for fixed voice and 2% for fixed data).

Voice traffic was 38% higher than that recorded in the period before the beginning of the exceptional and temporary measures associated to COVID-19, while data traffic was about 47% higher than that observed in that period (see table below).

According to the available information, the changes in the patterns of use of electronic communications services identified since the entry into force of the exceptional measures have been maintained. In other words, in the case of voice traffic, significant growth was recorded of fixed voice traffic (+102%), in contrast to the reduction observed in previous years, and more moderate growth of mobile voice (24%). Concerning data traffic, fixed broadband traffic grew at a higher rate (48%) than mobile data traffic (18%).

Despite the increased relative weight of fixed voice, mobile voice continues to be about five times higher than fixed voice. However, in the case of data traffic, fixed data traffic is more than 20 times higher than mobile data traffic.
