The task force (TF) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) mandated to propose a revision of the contributions system of the UPU held a videoconference meeting last 7 May, chaired by Germany.
That country and the TF have been undertaking diplomatic efforts addressed to UPU member-countries to promote the adoption of a new model that will be proposed to the 27th UPU Congress and also to urge countries that contribute below their economic and financial capacity (according to the United Nations classification) to increase their contribution and thereby help guarantee the UPU’s financial sustainability.
This financial year has been severely affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty regarding its near-future financial impact on the budgets of each member-country. This notwithstanding, there seems to be agreement regarding the new UPU financing model to propose to the 27th Congress.
