On 23 July 2020, the Chairman of ANACOM took part in the high-level session on digital inclusion and access to information and knowledge for all at the WSIS Forum 2020, an event organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) which debates fundamental topics on the implementation of the results of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) https://www.itu.int/net/wsis/basic/about.html.

João Cadete de Matos broached the subject of the process of digital terrestrial television (DTT) migration, and explained the specific actions undertaken by ANACOM to monitor this process and to guarantee access to information and knowledge to fringes of the population with lower digital literacy or less television coverage.

He also highlighted the importance of television for distance learning for the school-age children who were confined to their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In his intervention, he also referred to the development of educational content especially designed for this purpose, complemented by other more general information content.

The 2020 WSIS Forum is taking place exclusively through remote participation due to the current pandemic. It follows the format for sessions devoted to specific topics in the information society and the developments seen since the 2019 Forum.
