The European Commission approved, on 22 January, a Communication on unsolicited commercial electronic communications (spam), so as to reinforce the rules already established by the Commission to fight against this type of information.
This Communication proposes a series of actions consisting in, namely, implementing effectively the Directive 2002/58/CE of 12 July 2002, which concerns the processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector, adopting of measures of technical nature, self-regulation of companies, as well as to the adequate information of consumers on this matter and international cooperation.
Most of these actions shall be discussed in a seminar on spam, organised by the European Commission, which will be held on the 2 and 3 February, in Brussels (at the Albert Borschette Centre), after having been studied in October 2003, also in a seminar organised by the Commission.
