ANACOM, in partnership with the Portuguese Government (Sea Area), the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, the Portuguese Committee for the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC/UNESCO) and the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA), organises the session “Smart Cables in a Sea of Connectivity, Serving Science and Populations”.
The production of data in real time, directly from the bottom of the sea, through the use of undersea telecommunications cables, is fundamental for science (oceanography, geophysics, biology, etc.), as well as for populations, since this will allow tsunami and earthquake warnings to be issued and thus save lives and property.
Among other issues, focus will be given to the potential for Portugal to become a pioneer in bringing a SMART Cable into operation.
