ANACOM approves consultation report on making spectrum available in the 26 GHz frequency band

ANACOM has consulted the market to assess the interest in making spectrum available in the 26 GHz band, one of the pioneer/priority bands for the development of 5G, particularly as it allows for smaller coverage compared to the other frequency bands (700 MHz and 3.6 GHz), but with ultra-high capacity, enabling new business models and sectors of the economy to benefit from 5G.

In this context, a public consultation took place from 13 December 2021 to 7 March 2022, aimed at collecting the position of the various market players - manufacturers, operators, private and public bodies and others - on making spectrum available in the 26 GHz band, which will be considered and weighed in a subsequent adoption of ANACOM’s decisions on the matter, including with regard to the definition of the procedure and conditions for spectrum allocation, as well as the respective conditions of use.

ANACOM welcomes the positive and constructive nature of the different responses, which have shown significant interest in this matter, and will now disclose the public consultation report, approved by decision of this Authority on 13 July 2022.
