ICP grants authorisations to postal operators

/ Updated on 24.01.2008

The Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal (ICP) has granted authorisations for the provision of postal services to the operators, Chronopost, DHL and TNT. The authorisations are for non-reserved postal services that are not covered by the universal service and have been attributed within the framework of the new prevailing regulatory framework for licenses and authorisations.

In this manner, the operators, Chronopost Portugal - Transporte Internacional, S.A., DHL - Transportes Rápidos Internacionais, S.A. and TNT Express Worldwide (Portugal) - Transitários, Transportes e Serviços Complementares, S.A. are legally empowered to provide express mail services.

Express mail services are characterised by the acceptance or collection, handling, transport and distribution with additional swiftness, of correspondence items and parcels, with pre-defined delivery deadlines, register of sent correspondence and guarantee of the provider's responsibility, specifically through the provision of insurance, and control of sent correspondence's distribution path within the provider's operational circuit, thus enabling correspondence status to be identified and the respective information to be provided to the customer.
