ICANN - Public comments on new top-level domains

Until next 30 April, it is possible to send to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) comments on the creation of nine top-level domain names- .mail, .mobi, .tel, .travel, .xxx, .jobs, .post, .asia and .cat - within the public consultation launched for that purpose.

These new domains are mostly related to the electronic communications and postal sector, in particular:

.mail, for those who work with email providers, specially, who receive and send email messages, free of spam;

- .mobi, to name 'mobile optimised Internet content and services', being foreseeable that the enlarge adoption of Internet access equipment will increase and, in the future, will favour convergence between mobile communications equipment and the Internet;

- .tel, in order to allow that IP communications services providers register telephone numbers with Internet domain names, to which they could associate services based on IP. Thus, this domain will facilitate the migration of communications services from the traditional telecommunications network to the Internet;

- .xxx, which will identify entertainment contents for adults on-line;

- .post, to be applied by the Universal Postal Union, allowing for the identification of postal services in the Internet.
