The working party on Telecommunication and Information Services Policy (WP TISP) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) met on 1-2 June in Paris.
This meeting basically focused on the following subjects:
- Voice over IP (VoIP) - Presentation of market development and holding of a debate on VoIP?s impact on regulation of the sector; AT&T and Telecom Italia also gave a presentation from the standpoint of providers;
- Next generation networks (NGN) - Coverage of recent developments, with emphasis on telecommunications network convergence issues;
- Generic top level domain names (gTLDs) - Presentation of the problem of creating and the way to assign new gTLDs (by comparative selection or auction); ICANN - the international body that manages the gTLDs - indicated the priority questions for its agenda;
- OECD workshops - The first is to be held in Korea on 8-9 September, focusing on spam, while the second will be held in Oporto on 25-26 October and cover broadband in rural and remote areas, organised by the Innovation and Knowledge Mission Unit (UMIC).
The next meeting of this working group has been scheduled for 29-30 November.
