New radiocommunication fees have been approved

/ Updated on 20.08.2004

Administrative Rule no. 1047/2004, of 16 August, which approves the fees applicable to radiocommunications, has been published today in Series I-B of the Diario da Republica.

Continuity is thus given to the transition process begun in the year 2000, a process that aims at being extended to all categories of radiocommunications services. Radiocommunication fees must bring gradually into line the burden on the radio license holders and the profit they derive from the use of radiocommunication networks and stations. This shall also contribute to a more effective use of the radio spectrum.

The new administrative rule reduces by 7,5% the fees concerning the public land mobile service, reducing by half the fees applicable to the land digital sound broadcasting service in the VHF (metric waves) and UHF (decimetric waves) bands. Some adjustments are also included, namely as regards the fixed service with microwave links, in the scope both of private and public radiocommunications.

As far as FWA (fixed wireless access) is concerned, having regard to the current rewriting in the scope of that service, matters concerning the respective radio-electric fees shall be dealt within that context.

The new fees are applicable as from 1 July 2004, and Administrative Rule no. 149-B/2004, of 12 February is repealed.
