The Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) participated in Telebrasil 2005, held on 23-26 June in Costa do Sauípe, Brazil. There, it gave a presentation on the subject of 'Regulation and Competition in the New European Regulatory Framework', which focused on aspects such as the national regulatory authorities? regulatory action, authorisations, market analysis, universal service and regulatory harmonisation procedures at European level.
With respect to the market analysis procedure, emphasis was placed on significant market power designation and the imposition of obligations on operators. Lastly, reference was also made to the new regulatory challenges: next generation networks (NGNs) and the voice over IP protocol (VoIP).
