ANACOM extends price simulator to SMS and MMS

ANACOM - Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações plans to extend the functions of its price simulator, available on the website www.anacom.pthttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?categoryId=2958, to SMS and MMS sent to numbers in the national mobile networks or to the fixed network. The Tariff Observatory had heretofore only provided price comparisons for voice calls made from the three mobile networks. Access to the ANACOM simulator is open to all interested parties. The new functions are to become available online on Wednesday.

The ANACOM price simulator provides for short message service (SMS) and multimedia messages (MMS) the same functions already in place for voice calls. It is thus possible to consult price tables, simulate monthly consumption, compare message prices and use the virtual message function, which enables the cost of a given national message to be simulated in one or more price plans, according to the defined quantity.

With this simulator, available since June, ANACOM aims to meet the need deriving from the major difficulties faced by consumers when trying to compare telecommunications prices, due to lack of time, not knowing the various price offers on the market and in some cases to problems in defining their own user profiles - namely in mobile service, where there is great diversity of price tables.

ANACOM also plans to extend the simulator to cover other functions, such as the Internet.

The tool was developed in collaboration with the three national mobile operators, who are in turn responsible for entering the respective price table data.

Since the launch of the price table observatory in July, some 67,035 operations have been carried out, for a total of 28,959 users (data as of 3 November). A total of 36,546 of those operations concerned price table consultations, 20,600 call comparisons, 5,438 to simulate virtual calls and 4,453 to compare monthly consumption.
