/ Updated on 30.08.2006

The group PT SE7 (responsible for land mobile service questions) met on 16-18 January in Helsinki, Finland. Of the group?s three mandated issues - use of land mobile service terminals (GSM and UMTS, among others) on board aircraft, introduction of TETRA TEDS (TETRA Enhanced Data Service) in 400 MHz and 900 MHz bands, and cross-border mobile service co-ordination methods - the latter continues the work interrupted because the newly available SEAMCAT® still has some problems.

Regarding the use of GSM mobile terminals on board aircraft, editorial contributions to the document were presented. The group has finalised one version - internal report - to present during the plenary session of the working group on Spectrum Engineering (WG SE).

Regarding the introduction of TETRA TEDS, the results from the civil/military spectrum management meeting were presented, along with a proposal to pursue studies. Note also that, due to a lack of knowledge about the kind of military equipment operating in the considered bands, NATO was asked to provide information on the technology to examine.
