On April 6, 2001, within the framework of its attributions as the entity responsible for radio spectrum management, ICP - acting presently under the designation of ANACOM - decided to introduce several measures, recommended at the Community level in order to limit exposure of the general public to electro-magnetic fields. Given that this matter is not an exclusive competence of ICP-ANACOM, the creation of a multi-disciplinary working group was simultaneously proposed, able to respond to a series of relevant questions.
In this context, it was decided to set up an inter-ministerial working group, composed of representatives of several Ministeries, and coordinated by the representative of Minister of Health.
This decision was implemented via the joint ministerial order no. 8/2002, signed by the respective ministers on November 27, 2001 and published in the Diário da República, II Series, on January 7, 2002.
The working group is responsible for the following:
- Analyse the Council Recommendation no. 1999/519/EC, of July 12, 1999;
- Propose a framework of basic restrictions and suitable reference levels;
- Draw up concrete proposals for action.
The working group, in which Anacom was envolved, concluded the works on April 2003.
