ECC PT7 - La Valletta

/ Updated on 30.08.2006

The seventh meeting of project team PT7 of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC), which covers policy and strategy issues, was held on 14-15 February in Valletta, Malta.

The following stand out among the topics considered under this group:

  • The procedure to follow with a view to the 'alignment' of Commission and ECC Decisions;

  • Revision of the ECC Rules of Procedure and Working Methods considering the results of the last ECC meeting, where a proposal from Portugal and one from France were considered, both concerning the mechanism for revising ECC decisions;

  • Analysis of the way to achieve for the various countries of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) to become more involved in the organisation's work;

  • Consideration of economic issues within CEPT - guidelines for the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO) about which the intervention of the required support office is intended, under the title of 'co-ordination of economic questions'.

The next possible meeting of PT7 was scheduled for 27-28 September 2006. However, that meeting will only be held if the ECC decides that there are indeed issues justifying same. There is thus a real possibility that PT7 will be withdrawn and the still unresolved issues turned over to groups of a permanent nature, specifically to the Regulatory Affairs working group (WG RA).
