ANACOM provides information about roaming prices

ICP-ANACOM - Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações is going to publish on its site www.anacom.pthttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?categoryId=2958, some useful information about roaming and other details which are important to bear in mind when using your mobile phone abroad. This initiative of the Portuguese communications regulator is aimed at increasing tariff transparency and at helping to clear up queries that users have about using their phone and the tariff conditions that apply with roaming.

ANACOM is to present a new themed area, which will be launched tomorrow on its site. It answers a range of questions giving e users more information about the tariff conditions that apply to receiving or making calls and using your voicemail when abroad, and highlighting the cases where conditions differ from those that apply when using your phone without roaming in Portugal.

ANACOM is launching this initiative at a time when the European Commission is bent on achieving a general reduction in roaming prices through regulatory measures and ending the current disparity in prices.

The Commission has already organized the first phase of a consultation about a new communitary regulation, resulting in a draft regulation which will be submitted for consultation from 3 to 28 April.

With this draft regulation, presented last Tuesday, The Commission has set out to ensure that local operators charge operators of other countries wholesale rates that are in line with their actual costs and that the retail sector is also regulated so that price reductions are passed on to the consumer.

The new regulation could go further by eliminating roaming tariffs for receiving calls and could introduce the principle of ''home pricing'' for calls that are made with roaming; that is to say that when mobile customers travel to other member states, they would pay the same as they would at home.
