The Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) has created a special area on its Internet site which is intended to make available to the public all relevant information about the base stations of the Land Mobile Service, commonly known as mobile telephone antennae. This information can be consulted as from today.
This special area explains the legal framework of these base stations, with special reference being made to the two existing licensing levels: the radio-electric level, which is the responsibility of ANACOM, and the other which concerns territorial classification, the protection of patrimony and the environment, which is the responsibility of the district councils and other delegated entities.
Similarly, explanations are also given about the latest regulatory measures taken in Portugal and the European Union, with the possibility of consulting the deliberation made by ANACOM in relation to the adoption of reference levels for electromagnetic fields and the recommendations of the EU Council of Ministers, which gave origin to the ministerial order for the constitution of the Inter-ministerial Working Group created to study this problem at national level.
In matters outside the sphere of responsibilities of the Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações, namely the effects of human exposure to electromagnetic fields, links are provided to Internet sites providing specialised information on this specific point.
