/ Updated on 30.08.2006

The French city of Maisons-Alfort hosted on 17-18 May the second meeting of project team 9 (PT9) of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC).

The following stand out among the topics considered:

? Matters associated with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), specifically the alignment of positions to defend CEPT's position at the next IMO-ITU (International Telecommunication Union) meeting;
? Monitoring results of CPG PT4 work of relevance for PT9;
? Maritime equipment licensing needs;
? Monitoring the efforts of working group 8B of the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), which at the next meeting will begin preparing for the World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-07), specifically points 1.13, 1.14 and 1.16 of the Conference Preparatory Group (CPM);
? Current study of ship station operator certification SRC (short range certificate) and LRC (long range certificate), under the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), within CEPT;
? Evaluation of community Directives in the context of the group's activities;
? Analysis of situations involving the Universal System for the Automatic Identification of Ships (AIS);
? Licensing with regard to maritime mobile service and harmonisation of the maritime VHF band in CEPT.

PT9, whose activity was previously conducted under the working group on Regulatory Affairs (WG RA), has meanwhile been separated from that group and reports directly to the ECC. The work of PT9 mainly covers issues involving maritime mobile service and maritime radionavigation.
