In the first year of the price monitor for mobile telephone calls launched by ANACOM, 60 thousand different users entered the Tariff Monitor and performed 100 thousand simulation operations.
From all the operations of the first year, which was completed on Friday 28 July, most aimed to check call tariffs, reaching almost 59 thousand operations. The second most used feature was call comparison, an operation performed more than 30 thousand times in this first year.
According to ICP-ANACOM's data, in average, five thousand users per month accessed the monitor, making 9100 monthly simulations.
Aiming to promote the Tariff Monitor, ANACOM launched an advertising campaign, between 17 April and 17 July, leading to an important increase in the level of use of this tool by consumers.
The daily average of the number of accesses and performed simulation operations went, respectively, from 55 and 71, in the month before the beginning of the campaign; to average daily figures of 341 accesses and 438 performed operations in the month after the beginning of the campaign.
The monitor, developed with the cooperation of the three national mobile operators, is available at the website www.anacom.pthttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?categoryId=2958 and is open to all interested parties.
ANACOM's monitor started with the comparison of national calls in the mobile service, providing tariff comparison, tariff consultation, virtual calls, and the possibility to verify what is the most adequate tariff for a given user's real monthly consumption. Later, in November, it started providing the features already existing for voice calls to the short message service (SMS) and to the multimedia messaging service (MMS). As of today, the Monitor includes a new improvement at the level of the monthly consumption's simulation, now offering the option 'My monthly consumption profile'. ANACOM will also make some improvements to the Tariff Monitor in terms of accessibility, namely by offering the text version of the TM, which will give citizens with disabilities better accessibility, and which will also benefit citizens with narrowband or those with lower capacity hardware, such as dial-up accesses and access using mobile telephones.
With this simulator, ANACOM intended to solve a gap - the difficulty that consumers have in comparing telecommunications' prices, due to lack of time, lack of knowledge of the set of tariffs on the market and, in some cases, due to the difficulties found in the definition of their own usage profile. Namely in the mobile service, where there is a great variety of tariffs.
ANACOM also plans to broaden the monitor in order to include other features, such as the Internet.
