Provision of Directories and Enquiry Services (I)

Subsequent to efforts carried out to ensure compliance with the obligations to be met by Portugal Telecom, S.A., as the universal service provider, under the terms of Article 6 of Decree-Law n.º 458/99, of 5 November, the following was decided by determination of 19 October 2000:

1. To consider that the information made available by PT should not be viewed as a norm to demonstrate the possible existence of relevant costs compatible with the need to establish the prices proposed, where the absence of said data cannot impede or delay the production and distribution of telephone directories within the scope of the universal service, taking into consideration the need for:

a) The timely availability of the service;

b) Its importance for the development of the activities of the various operators and providers, and consequently, for the development of competition;

2. PT may subsequently send ICP all the data needed to evaluate the cost orientation principle. If necessary, ICP will then define the rules for setting the maximum prices applicable within the scope of that service.
